Two CBC Health Services’ institutions in the Southwest Region, Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Central Pharmacy and Kumba Baptist Health Centre, have received accreditations from the Regional Regulatory Body of the Performance Based Financing (PBF). The award ceremony took place on November 1, 2018 at the Southwest Regional Delegation of Public Health in Buea, Cameroon. Altogether, four institutions were recognized including Bambini Medical Centre, CMA Ntam and Kumba Baptist Health Center (all 3 in Kumba) and CBC Central Pharmacy in Mutengene.
Presiding at the grandiose ceremony, Southwest Religion Delegate of Public Health, Dr. Victor Mbome Njie, hailed the beneficiaries of this accreditation for their excellent performance in the provision of quality health services in the region. Dr. Victor Mbome Njie enjoined the institutions to continue to do even more so that their accreditation should never be revoked.
Quizzed on the source of funding for the PBF project, the Regional Delegate explained that “PBF which stands for Performance Based Financing, is an initiative of the World Bank to strengthen the health sector through quality services delivery, efficiency in managing the resources allocated in the health sector, and equity. These are the three pillars on which the PBF works.”
“We make sure that we have quality services delivery, meet the needs of our patients, and ensure that resources made available to health sectors are efficiently managed and that there is equitable distribution of health services in all places including the rural areas,” added Dr. Victor Mbome Njie.Southwest Regional Pharmacist, Dr. Amang Baudouin, elaborated on some of the eminent accomplishments by the CBC Central Pharmacy in Mutengene like tight security, quality control, good shelves, committed staff and vans available for the transportation of drugs as well as a backup power supply to enable the proper functioning of the cool chain.
The accreditation confers a wholesaler status to the CBC Central Pharmacy, which is very renowned in Cameroon and in Africa. Speaking shortly after receiving the award, the Pharmacist in charge of Production at the CBC Central Pharmacy, Munfi Francis said, “The PBF Accreditation is in recognition of the hard work, our willingness to improve on quality of the services we offer, and our willingness to co-operate with other health facilities and to complement the services they render in order to ensure universal health coverage.”
Pharmacist Munfi Francis noted that the CBC Central Pharmacy is committed to improving access to quality and affordable medicines for the health facilities she serves. “It is a delight for us to be recognized by PBF and to be included in their list of facilities that can supply medicine to PBF approved sites,” he remarked.
The Production Pharmacist said the accreditation comes to encourage the CBC Central Pharmacy staff to improve, be consistent in the work they are doing, and strive to attain international best practices when it comes to pharmaceutical management.
Meanwhile, the accreditation for Kumba Baptist Health Center is as a result of her distinguished quality health care delivery during the last two quarters of 2018.
Chief of Centre for Kumba Baptist Health Centre, Mr. Yungseh Peter, Said the award comes as a booster to the staff. “We plan to work harder and receive more accreditations. It is just the beginning for us. This accreditation serves as a good advertisement for the Health Centre.”
