Overview

Founded in 1993 by an American non-governmental organization implanted in West Africa, the CMAO (West African Medical Centers) Hospital of Meskine was officially opened 1994 with the aim of offering basic healthcare services to the largely undersupplied populations of the Far North Region of Cameroon. In a few years of missionary work, the Health Center moved forward to a Referral Hospital for the sick from Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and even Sudan. The Boko Haram crisis and the lack of security in the Sub-Region lead to a recession in terms of attendance of patients, income and also to the loss of (foreign) specialists.

With the taking over of the CBCHS (Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services) in January 2020, a new start was given to the Maroua I District Hospital, with an ambitious development project, confirming the aspiration of the hospital to act as a Referral Inclusive Centre providing care to all those who need it in the unmistakable Christian fashion already well established in all CBC health facilities throughout the country.

Since December 2024, 200 staff members (among which a gynecologist, an internist, an oncologist, an ophthalmologist and an orthopedic surgeon) are available to take care of in- and outpatients coming principally from 3 regions of Cameroon and from Chad, with 100 beds’ capacity.
