The community of Mbingo gathered in heartfelt gratitude and reflection to bid farewell to Professor Keith and Dr. Kaye Streatfeild, during a two-part send-off ceremony held at Mbingo Baptist Hospital on April 13, 2026. The event began with an extended chapel service from 6:30 a.m. to 7:20 a.m., followed by a second session from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., bringing together colleagues, students, and staff whose lives have been touched by the couple’s decade-long mission in Cameroon.

Professor Streatfeild, an anesthesiologist, and Dr. Kaye, a family physician, first arrived in Cameroon in 2015 after initial contact with Sister Lois and later Dr. Palmer. Their primary mission was to teach and strengthen anesthesia services. However, their contribution quickly expanded far beyond their original mandate. Over the years, Professor Streatfeild distinguished himself not only as a clinician and educator but also as a mentor and father figure to many. His leadership journey culminated in his appointment as Dean of the Baptist Institute of Health Sciences, a role in which he served with dedication until his departure.

Dr. Kaye also left an indelible mark through her meticulous teaching of physical examination skills to a wide range of healthcare trainees, including screeners, nurse practitioners, house officers, and residents. Beyond academics, she played a vital spiritual role, leading Bible studies for faculty and students across multiple training programs.

In his farewell remarks, Professor Keith reflected warmly on his experience, noting the cultural similarities between Cameroon and Australia. He described Mbingo as family, saying they were leaving behind a “larger family” to reunite with a smaller one back home.

Dr. Kaye, in her emotional address, encouraged the community to remain steadfast in love, unity, and service. Drawing inspiration from the journey of the Israelites, she challenged the people of Mbingo to rise and actively preserve the values and environment they have built over the years. She also assured the community of her continued prayers, expressing her desire to see everyone grow and flourish.

The afternoon session featured reflections from Dr. Daah, Dr. Kwalar, Mrs. Lukong, and Mr. Mobit, all of whom emphasized the profound impact the couple has had on individuals and the wider Mbingo community. Many noted that their departure leaves a significant gap, both professionally and spiritually. A recurring theme throughout the event was the importance of celebrating heroes while they are still alive. The Streatfeilds were honored as such heroes – individuals who remained committed to their mission despite security challenges, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and excellence.

Tributes poured in from colleagues and friends during both sessions. In the morning, speakers including Dr. Nshom Ernest, Dr. Chukwu Emeka, Dr. Sunday David, Professor Elite, and Ma Barden described the Streatfeilds as humble, focused, compassionate, and deeply committed to both professional excellence and spiritual growth. Dr. Kaye was also fondly remembered for her candid nature and exceptional cooking skills. As the ceremony concluded, one message remained clear: the influence of Professor Keith and Dr. Kaye will continue to resonate in Mbingo for years to come.
