CBM Country Office commends Strides recorded in CBM Supported Projects within CBC Health Services
The CBM Country Office Program Manager has applauded the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SEEPD) program for its strides in improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the Northwest region and beyond. Sakwe ITOE Mbone was speaking recently at the end of a 4-day Monitoring visit to the Comprehensive Program for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Inclusive Access to Basic Services of Health and Education in the Northwest region and the Cameroon Clubfoot Care project.
The objective of the visit was to evaluate the progress of project implementation, identify and discuss project support needs, and successes/challenges, and ensure compliance and quality check of project financial report.
The Project Manager was accompanied to the visit by the CBM Finance Officer, Adolpe Wachou Diemnou, and the CBM Country Program Officer, Mispa Tebon. During the visit, project/program staff presented the different activities implemented and the outcomes recorded as well as a detailed implementation plan for activities to be implemented in the days ahead.
The CBM team also paid a visit to some of the project sites supported by CBM like the Regional Inclusive Center in GBHS Bamenda. At the center, the Coordinator of the center presented activities of the center to the team and highlighted the support of CBM to the center such as the donation of a brail embosser which facilitates the brailing of notes, and exams for learners with hearing impairment. One of the students with visual impairment expressed to the CBM team that the brail embosser has enabled him to have access to lecture notes and exams like his peers without impairment.
The CBID Program Officer also visited a Vocational training center at Fish Pond Hill Bamenda where some 4 youths with disabilities are currently receiving livelihood training on fish rearing with support from CBM through the Integrated Development Foundation (IDF). One of the trainees with mobility impairment attested that the skills acquired from the training will enable him to open his Fishpond which will help him have a means of livelihood. She also visited some 11 trainees with hearing impairments who are undergoing training in catering. The trainees expressed gratitude to CBM for supporting their training which has enabled them to acquire skills to be able to produce and sell.
On the Clubfoot project, the team paid a visit to the Clubfoot clinic in Nkwen Baptist Hospital where the Clubfoot clinic staff presented the clinic and appreciated CBM for supporting the clinic and children with clubfoot with consumables.
The visit ended with a feedback session with the Program/Project team during which the CBM Country Program Manager and CBID Program Officer expressed satisfaction with the activities implementation rate. They made recommendations that will improve the outcome of activities implementation that will enable the Program team to record more results.
In response, the SSEPD Program Manager, Awa Jacques Chirac appreciated CBM for the visit and noted that partner assessments are very important and cannot be taken for granted. He promised to discuss some of the recommendations with top management for further action.
