Years of Service rewarded at Mbingo Baptist Hospital for Six Retiring Staff
Appreciated for their remarkable years of service and contribution to the growth of the CBC Health Services, six senior staff of Mbingo Baptist Hospital received their retirement certificates, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the Hospital’s chapel. The emotional ceremony, full of pomp and congratulatory speeches took place in the presence of their families, colleagues, the Administration, and the Regional Delegate of Labour and Social Security.
The retirees, Mr. Boji Simon, Mr. Chia Christopher Ndondey, Mrs. Chiambah Theresia Chiambom, Mrs. Muky Angelina Ghama, Mrs. Suwah Elizabeth Shi and Mr. Yuh Simon Nantang have all served the Health Board for many years ranging from 15 to 43 years.
Retirement marks the end of a long and dedicated career. The CBC Health Services is an institution that recognizes its retiring employee’s contributions and thus expresses appreciation for their years of service. This is usually done with a grand celebration service involving speeches, recognitions, and feasting.
As the Director of Health Services, Prof. Tih Pius Muffih stated, “There is a time to start and a time to end”. This generic applies to work life, especially for all within the CBC Health Services and beyond. History marks the day each of the retirees began work, young, agile, and ready to take over the world, and the day, they received their certificates of recognition as retirees.
Proof that progress is constant and that hard work and determination would propel all who dare to dream to heights of glory, these retirees showed to all from their CVs read, that ending strong is possible. An important fact worth mentioning, they all with radiant faces chimed with one voice, that they had prepared for retirement with the help of the Health Board Pension Plan, a scheme put in place to assist staff with life after active service. As the common parlance stipulates, “How you begin is inconsequential, but how you choose to end is what matters”.
Mr. Boji Simon was employed as a tailor. He was noted for being diligent and skilled in various domains and by his retirement as the head of the craft unit for persons with disabilities under the Community-Based Rehabilitation program, he had impacted many lives. He has helped many persons with disabilities to become self-sustaining through various trades.
Mr. Chia Christopher began as a novice painter with dreams of showcasing his talent. Years before his retirement as a seasoned painter, he was a household name, leaving a landmark of excellence in Mbingo. His work of art kept everyone in awe.
Mrs. Chiambah Theresia, a soft-spoken and happy woman began as a ward auxiliary and retired as a Community mental health officer. Her gentle nature has been instrumental in improving the lives of many people, patients, and colleagues alike.
The Cheerful Mrs. Suwah Elizabeth, boasts 43 years in active service, beginning as a ward auxiliary and finishing as a senior nurse. She was regarded as being reliable, honest, and a good team member. She was widely commended.
Mrs. Muky Angelina’s passion and dedication were admired by all. Starting work as a housekeeper, she is noted for her ability to remain calm in chaos and her drive for growth. This was evident by her retiring as a senior nurse, noted for always having the patient’s interest at heart.
highly distinguished administrator, serving in different departments and especially with persons with disabilities, Mr. Yuh Simon began work as a field supervisor with the Community-Based Rehabilitation program. His diligent work earned him several recognitions, one being the National Order of Merit from the Presidency in 2013. He also earned the Health Board medal in 2003. Commonly called, “Community man”, he was noted for standing in as surety for countless patients. His ardent promotion of the Health Board Pension Plan earned him the title of Ambassador Emeritus. He is passionate about helping people become financially stable.
With one voice, the retirees emotionally expressed gratitude to the administrators and staff of Mbingo Baptist Hospital and to the CBC Health Services. They were grateful for the opportunity to participate in impacting lives. They expressed their unwavering commitment to assist and provide mentoring services when needed.
The retirees were encouraged to keep fit, live healthy lives, and be consistent with routine medical checks, and were reminded that they are “retired but not tired”. The Director of Health Services, through the Administrator of Mbingo Baptist Hospital, Mr. Fambombi Dickson, wished them many more years in strength and good health. “We are celebrating our retirees who fought a good fight. The footprints and landmarks of your service and loyalty are visible to all and we hope you will always return to mentor and share your secrets with us,” he stated.
A unanimous applause from the audience gave a single message. “Well done!!!”.
