CBCHS hosts Nonoperative Course on Fracture Management in Mutengene
A 3-day training on Nonoperative Management took place in Baptist Hospital Mutengene, Cameroon from Nov 4-6, 2021 under the auspices of AO Alliance Foundation, German-based NGO.
AO Alliance Foundation organized this course in Cameroon since 2013 in English and in French. Dr. Ndasi Henry, orthopedic surgeon is National Course Chair and backed by ten nationals as faculty members
Timothy Fanfon, PT Supervisor revealed that at least 15 CBC Health Services staff receive this training every year since 2013. “This is beneficial in enhancing the capacity of medical, PT and all nursing personnel who receive fracture cases in our institutions,” Mr. Fanfon noted.
According to Dr. Ndasi, this course began to hold twice a year from last year 2020. He revealed that next year, another course will be added for nonoperative nurses while a course exclusively for surgeons is in the pipeline.
In his words of welcome read to participants, the Chair of AO Alliance (AOA) Rolf Jaker and the Regional Director, Africa, Jim Harrison said AO Alliance is a developmental nonprofit organization responding to the need to improve the care of acute musculoskeletal trauma and neglected case in the low-income countries of the world. This is done by building local capacity on one hand and by collaborating with local healthcare workers to develop and deliver educational events – such as this event – to provide training to individuals to promote healing and restore health and function.
The two officials paid tributes to those faculty members who dedicate much time away from their hospitals and families to come and teach AOA events to improve care. To the participants, they hope that they will return home enriched with new knowledge and skills to help meet the ultimate goal of improving g care of the injured patient.
The Mutengene training was held under strict respect of COVID-19 guidelines; wearing of face mask, hand washing and social distance.
