At the central level, the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control (NCD) Manager, Mr Takwe Boniface did a presentation to the staff at the Director of Health Services (DHS) Office in Bamenda with emphasis on Diabetes and Well-being. Well-being, according to him, is all about being comfortable, healthy, and happy. Mr. Takwe highlighted the key dimensions of well-being including physical, psychological social support, and emotional/stress care well-being.
The NCD Manager noted that 540 million people globally are living with Diabetes and by 2045, it is projected to be at 783 million. He observed that Diabetes requires constant decisions, reasons why people living with Diabetes make 190 decisions every day to stay healthy. Mental health has a big impact in managing Diabetes. He concluded that It is important to manage the physical, emotional, social and mental well-being of Diabetes patients, meanwhile, people without Diabetes need to work hard to stay healthy.
At the end of the presentation in chapel, the Director of Health Services, Mr. Ngum Samuel added his voice to encourage the staff to take their health seriously by visiting the facilities to know their numbers saying, “The trends have changed, our lifestyles have changed and so there is a need for a policy change for our physical examination for staff that comes every February to include NCDs”. He appreciated the NCD Prevention and Control Manager for his recent award and promised the administration’s support at all times.
Still, as part of activities to mark the celebrations, the central team of the NCD Prevention and Control Program carried out radio sensitizations on four different radio stations in Bamenda including CRTV Bamenda, Radio Hot, Cocoa, Christian Broadcasting Service CBS, and CBC Radio.
Back in the other stations across CBC Health Services, staff from the facilities carried out sensitization in the communities, churches, schools, markets, Njangi houses as well as in the wards and OPDs, all in a bit to create awareness of the dangers of Diabetes and to encourage people to get screened, eat healthily, to stay alive.
