Peter Hesseling
Program Coordinator
Professor Peter Hesseling is a pediatric oncologist and former chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Children’s Hospital. His main professional interest is the development of treatment programs for children with cancer in poor African countries. He is a founder member of SIOP PODC and has developed oncology services/programs in South Africa, Namibia and Malawi.
Glenn Mbah
Program Manager
Glenn Mbah is a Registered nurse with pediatric oncology nursing training from the Utrecht University summer school in the Netherlands, and a Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Roehampton, London. He is also a civic leader and fellow of the Mandela-Washington Young African Leaders initiative. Glenn is the current manager of the CBCHS childhood cancer program after several years of experience as a nurse in pediatric oncology at Banso Baptist Hospital
Dr P.D.Wharin
Visiting Physician
Dr Paul Wharin is a graduate of Cambridge University, England and completed medical studies at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London before undertaking vocational training for general practice in the UK. After nearly 30 years experience in general practice which included hospice-based palliative care he studied tropical medicine at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
Joel Kaah
Palliative Care Nurse
Kaah Joel Nkofon has served in the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services since July 2002. He holds an Advance Practice Nursing Assistant(Brevete) qualification from the Baptist Training School for Health Personnel, Banso. Joel joined the CBCHS childhood cancer team in January 2013 with the main responsibility of providing home-based palliative care to children with cancer in Banso Baptist Hospital. In December 2015, Joel obtained a post graduate Diploma in Paediatric Palliative Medicine from the University of Cape Town South Africa.
Celine Akwang
Staff nurse, Mbingo Baptist Hospital
Celine Akwang joined the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services since 1999 as an auxiliary nurse. In 2001, was trained in Baptist Training School for Health Personnel Banso as a Nursing Assistant and worked from 2002 to 2007, then travelled to South Africa and studied B-Tech Nursing oncology at Tshwane University of Technology Pretoria for two years where she obtained a post graduate Diploma in oncology nursing. She became a member of the CBCHS pediatric oncology team in February 2016 in Banso Baptist Hospital and later moved to Mbingo Baptist Hospital.
Bangha Comfort Yafi
Research Assistant Nurse, Mbingo Baptist Hospital
Nurse Kimbi Comfort has served with the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health services since 1999. She holds an Advance Practice Nursing Assistance (Brevete) qualification from the Baptist Training school for Health Personnel Banso. Comfort joined the CBCHS childhood cancer program in August 2008 with the main responsibility as a Research Assistant Nurse to care for the children with cancer in Mbingo Baptist Hospital. She provides childhood cancer awareness in communities and other health facilities. She does counseling and provides treatment care to the children with cancer.
