On March 4, 2026, the Baptist Center transformed into a hub of health advocacy as the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Prevention and Control Program led a vibrant commemoration of World Obesity Day. The event, characterized by high-energy physical activity and strategic sensitization, brought together the Central Administration staff of the CBC to prove that the CBC Health Services doesn’t just promote health, they embody it.

The day’s activities commenced immediately after the morning devotions with an insightful presentation by the NCD Program Manager, Mr. Takwe Boniface. Grounded in this year’s global theme, “8 Billion Reasons to Act on Obesity,” Mr. Takwe urged every staff member to rethink their approach to weight management. He emphasized that tackling obesity requires more than just temporary fixes; it demands comprehensive lifestyle shifts and a collective commitment to wellness.

Following the presentation, the energy shifted from the hall to the streets. Decked out in colorful branded attire, the CBC Central Administration staff participated in a spirited “March for Health” led by the Director of Health Services (DHS), Mr. Ngum Samuel, and the Deputy Director for Administration and Finance (DDAF), Mr. Warri Denis. The staff marched through the Nkwen Baptist Church to Finance Junction and back to the Baptist Centre with placards to raise public awareness of the importance of obesity prevention. The march concluded back at the Volley Ball, where the staff transitioned immediately into a high-energy aerobics session led by the Sports Coordinator, Mr. Monju Elvis, reinforcing the message that intentional movement is a non-negotiable part of a healthy life and fight against Obesity.

During the event, the Director of Health Services, Mr. Ngum Samuel lauded the NCD team for their award-winning mobilization efforts. He delivered an emotional reminder to the workforce about the dangers of sedentary roles often found in office environments. “We don’t want to leave anyone behind,” the Director noted, specifically encouraging staff members aged 60 and above to prioritize staying active to maintain their quality of life.

To ensure that the momentum from World Obesity Day continues long after the event, the DHS officially invited all staff to participate in the upcoming DHS Tournament, set to be launched on March 13, 2026 in the Proximity Stadium in Bamenda. This sports initiative is designed to unite all facilities under the mission to “brighten their corner” through physical fitness. By fostering a healthier and more resilient workforce, the CBC Health Services aims at significantly reducing the burden of obesity and other NCDs within the organization and the wider community.
Together, through education, public advocacy, and physical action, the staff of the Central Administration of the CBC are creating a lasting impact on the health landscape in the region.
