The ceremony began with a protocol phase marked by speeches of the various authorities present. In their interventions, the officials of the University of Maroua and the CBC stressed the importance of this investment for the strengthening of the training of future teachers called upon to accompany learners with specific educational needs.

The new lab is intended to be a modern, hands-on learning space for students, teachers and education professionals to learn about approaches, tools and technologies that promote accessible education for all. It will help improve teachers’ skills in caring for students with disabilities and promote inclusive teaching practices in schools.

After the official speeches, the guests took a guided tour of the laboratory. This sequence made it possible to discover the various teaching equipment, specialized materials and learning resources installed to support practical training in inclusive education. The participants were able to appreciate the quality of the infrastructure made available as well as its potential to strengthen the capacities of future teachers in the region.

The establishment of this laboratory is part of the project “Building Resilience for Enhanced Access to Basic Services of Health, Education and Social Inclusion in the Far North Region”, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with the support of Christian Blind Mission (CBM). The project is implemented by the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS) in partnership with local institutional actors.

Through this initiative, the partners reaffirm their commitment to a more inclusive society where every child, regardless of ability or disability, can access quality education. The creation of this laboratory is thus a significant contribution to the development of a more equitable and resilient education system in the Far North region and beyond.

This ceremony also provided an opportunity for the University of Maroua and the Cameroon Baptist University Institute (CBUI) to sign a new specific partnership agreement on functional rehabilitation and social inclusion, thereby strengthening their collaboration in the areas of training, research, and the development of services for persons with disabilities.
