Staff of the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SEEPD) Program and some other CBC Health Services programs and projects staff have improved their knowledge on leadership, governance, team effectiveness, donor relations, strategic communication, and visibility. This was during a 3-day capacity-building workshop organized by the SEEPD Program at the CBC Health Services Resource Center, Mvan Yaoundé. The training, facilitated by Prof. Tih Pius, Mr. Peter Mue, Wacha Adolphe, and Comfort Mussa, took place from May 25-27, 2026.

According to the SEEPD Program Manager, Mr. Awa Jacques Chirac, the objective of the training was to strengthen the ability of all SEEPD staff to consistently deliver inclusive, compliant, and visible development projects. Mr. Awa added that the workshop was also intended to improve staff capacity to effectively manage projects in a multi-donor environment while strengthening leadership, governance, communication, documentation, monitoring, evaluation, and teamwork.

With his rich experience in leadership and governance as Director of the CBC Health Services for several years, Prof. Tih Pius Muffih drilled staff on leadership and governance, Donor relations, and partner management. At the end of his presentations, participants were able to understand the different concepts articulated and how to practically apply them in their daily work. Prof. Tih echoed throughout his presentation that each participant of the training is a leader in their role, thus they should be able to apply the four pillars of leadership, which are direction, accountability, alignment, and adaptability. In all his presentations, he emphasized effective communication as best practice among teams.

Mr. Mue Peter, a consultant in Disability and former Country Director of CBM, besides corroborating other facilitators’ presentations, schooled the staff on team building and conflict management. He drew from his managerial experience to equip the staff with tips for building effective teams and fostering a productive work environment.  Based on group discussions, Mr. Mue guided staff on how to develop tools in their different areas of work, such as monitoring and evaluation, reporting, and compliance, amongst others.

During the training, the Senior Finance Staff of the Country Office CBM, Adolphe Wacha, and the Country Field Communication Officer, Comfort Mussa, drilled staff on Compliance and strategic communication. In his presentation, Adolphe underscored that compliance is required at all levels of the project implementation. He noted that compliance is strategic because it helps build a good relationship with donors. His presentation enabled staff to develop a draft of the compliance checklist.

On her part, Comfort Mussa reiterated the importance of communication as a managerial function while encouraging the project team to ensure effective communication at every level in the project management cycle.

A total of 47 staff members attended the workshop, made up of the Senior Management team, Finance Officers, Project Coordinators, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, and Communication Officers from SEEPD, HIV, RAISE, and EDID Programs/Projects. Staff are going back equipped to be more productive in their roles than ever before.

The Program Managers of SEEPD, HIV, and RAISE expressed gratitude to the facilitators for dedicating time and effort to build the capacities of staff. They encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge in their work to improve productivity and build a healthy work environment.

It should be noted that the SEEPD Program, which started in 2009 in the Northwest Region with only a few staff, has birthed 13 projects with activities implemented in all 10 regions of Cameroon by 62 staff.
