CBC Education Board Hands-Over Modern Resource Center to SIEP Project Stakeholders
A new modern Resource Center constructed with funding from the Liliane Fonds through the Empowerment Disability and Inclusive Development (EDID) program of the CBC Health Services has
been handed over to stakeholders of the Sustainable Inclusive Education Project (SIEP) of the CBC Education Board in Cameroon.
The Center was handed over by the CBC Education Secretary, Job Nyangangi who doubles as the Director of the SIEP Project. Receiving the Center on behalf of the stakeholders, the Delegates of Basic Education and Social Affairs for the Northwest, cut ribbons to the building on July 2, 2019 during a SIEP stakeholders meeting. The Resource Center is constructed within the (SIEP) Project, and was handed to the CBC Education Board on June 11, 2019.
According to the Project Officer, Dr. Atanga Napthalin, the reason for tendering the Center to SIED Project stakeholders is to enable them to own, promote it and raise awareness for more learners with and without impairments to enroll in the pilot schools so that they can make use of the center. The goal of the SIEP Project, he noted is to contribute to development by supporting the government of Cameroon in the provision of quality inclusive education.
During the handing over ceremony, the Regional Delegate of Basic Education, Mr. Ndong Wilfred who presided over the stakeholders meeting, commended the CBC for its strives in fostering inclusive education in the region. He recounted the role of the Socio Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disability (SEEPD) and EDID programs of the CBC Health Services in training teachers on inclusive education in the Northwest Region. He added that with the coming of the SIEP project, hopes continue to be high in the region that children with impairments will enjoy quality inclusive education as aimed by the project. The two Regional Delegates implored the stakeholders of the SIEP project to put hands on deck to ensure that the region continues to be a pacesetter for inclusive education.
In a devotional from Proverbs 20:25, the Senior Pastor of Nkwen Baptist Church, Rev. Njini Edward challenged the stakeholders of the Resource Center to use it judiciously because they will be accountable to God and man on how they used the resources to impact the beneficiaries. The Chaplain of the Baptist Comprehensive High School Rev. Abanda committed the Center to God.
The Coordinator of Services for Persons with Disability (SPD) of the CBCHS, Awa Jacques Chirac who represented the Director of CBC Health Services at the meeting, said the well-equipped Resource Center is intended to facilitate teaching, learning, and studying of teacher and students with and without disabilities in the region.
It should be noted that the SIEP project under the CBC Education Board is a project financed by the Liliane Fonds through the EDID Program which started in 2018. The project is being implemented in 6 pilot CBC schools across Northwest and West Regions with about 1080 enrolled children with mild and severe impairments.
