CECPES Clocks ‘10’ in Social Work Training
The Centre for Clinical Pastoral Education and Social Services has churned out its 10th batch of social workers. Speaking at the graduation-in strict academic style, Abass Sahabu, a Graduate said the training has equipped him with what it takes to become an efficient social worker.
“The training has given me tools to re-parent my spiritual, physical, and mental awareness. I’m able to reorient myself to grow past old wounds, shift my story and develop healthier ways of thinking,” he said
I can “assume my new position in the community as a wounded healer,” rejoiced Abass-now turned social worker.
Graduation was the hallmark of months of intensive training. Rev. Mbuh Julius, Director of CECPES says the triumph of the graduates was thanks to the faculty who invested time to train the students. Besides the faculty, were the various institutions where the students had their practicum. According to Rev. Mbuh, these institutions did a formidable job which allowed the students to match theory with practice.
As the graduates get into the field, they have been challenged to be of service to those they have been trained to serve. Mr. Kwende Cliff, Regional Delegate of Social Affairs says the task that lies ahead is “enormous” but the graduates must leave up to the challenge.
“Social work-you should be told is an art that requires practitioners to be equipped with technical, moral, and spiritual elements to be able to help individuals. I’m convinced you must have acquired these skills through your training because you will truly need them,” said Mr. Kwende.
The delegate equally saluted CECPES for making sure that more people are trained in social work in Cameroon. “They are a real need in our today’s society,” he said.
Mr. Warri Denis, Deputy Director for Administration and Finance (DDAF) on his part charged the now-turned social workers to be ambassadors of CECPES. “Put to use the virtues and the skills you have acquired during your training, making sure to offer nothing short of quality care to your clients.”
“Social work training is central to the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services’ mission of addressing the social needs of the population – and there has never been a time when the needs of the population are enormous as now. Deploying you back to the various areas where you are from, is a strategy to reach out to many people, given that we cannot be present everywhere,” said the DDAF
It is worth mentioning that the graduation of the 10th batch of CECPES’ social work students was held at the Baptist Centre Nkwen-Bamenda on August 3, 2022.
