The 2026 edition of the We Ring the Bell campaign, an initiative of the Liliane Foundation implemented through the CBCHS Empowerment and Disability Inclusive Development (EDID) Program, was launched for the year 2026 at the Yaounde IV Council with strong calls for greater inclusion and support for children living with disabilities. The event brought together government officials, development partners including the CBCHS, persons with disabilities, families, and community members to raise awareness on inclusive education and promotion of equal opportunities for all children.

Speaking during the event, the Mayor of Yaounde IV Council, Mr. Gabriel Efila, noted that the campaign is now fully embraced by the Council as a means of continuously promoting the rights and contributions of persons with disabilities. Presenting the campaign objectives, Mr. Bogo of the Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAS) explained that this year’s theme, “Leaving No Child Behind: Financing Inclusive Education in Cameroon,” seeks to mobilize support for Inclusive Play-Based Early Childhood Education for children with disabilities. He emphasized that every child learns through play and deserves access to quality education regardless of their condition.

The Director of CBCHS, Mr. Ngum Samuel reminded families that “Inclusion begins at home, parents must be encouraged not to see disability as a burden but as a condition that should not limit a child’s future”. He further highlighted CBCHS’ ongoing five-year strategy aimed at identifying and supporting children living with disabilities.
Sharing his personal experience, Mr. Onana Emile of MINAS inspired participants with his story of resilience, encouraging families never to give up on their children despite challenges.

Launching the campaign, the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irene Nguene stressed that “We Ring the Bell is a global movement promoting inclusive education in over 100 countries, and all families, communities, partners, and social actors must come together to break barriers, fight prejudice, and ensure children with disabilities have access to quality education”. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening inclusive education and improving opportunities for persons with disabilities, expressing hope that the campaign would bring concrete changes in attitudes and practices across the country.
The ceremony ended with participants ringing the bell as a symbol of their commitment to ensuring that no child with a disability is left behind.
