More Councils in Cameroon collaborate for better services for PWDs
The CBC Health Services has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Foumban council to improve services rendered to Children and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Foumban.
This understanding comes under the Empowerment and Disability Inclusive Development (EDID) Program of the CBC Health Services. The event on November 30, 2020, held at the Foumban council with the Director of the CBC Health Services, Prof Tih Pius Muffih; and the Mayor of Foumban council Mrs. Hermine Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya signing for their respective institutions.
Thanks to Government collaboration, Partner Organizations in Cameroon and the support from the Liliane Foundation, persons with disabilities continue to receive improved services in all municipalities in the country. Filles de la Charite a Partner Organization of the EDID program has been instrumental to this cooperation. Thanks to this MoU, the CBC Health Services and their Partner Organization- Filles des La Charité will be key Partners to work together with the Foumban council to accomplish disability-inclusive development in the Foumban Municipality.
Addressing the attendees amongst which were officials from the two signatory organizations, parents of children with disabilities, persons with disabilities, and councilors of the Foumban council, the Lord Mayor highlighted the social services of her office which works with families, women, young and elderly people, and also has the responsibility to organize activities for vulnerable groups.
This partnership will enable the CBCHS and the Foumban Council to achieve greater results together, with the council committing to:
- Support children, youths, and adults with disabilities to have access to health, education, social and livelihood opportunities in the Foumban municipality.
- Adopt inclusion as a cross-cutting approach to planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Facilitate the elimination of physical barriers inhibiting the access of people with impairments to public infrastructure (including but not limited to schools, health facilities, transport services, common sports facilities, etc).
- Support inclusive education of children with disabilities by recruiting inclusive teachers
- Support the actions of organizations of people living with disabilities and associations as well as support groups for parents of children with disabilities.
Support access to healthcare for vulnerable groups, particularly people living with disabilities
Prof Tih pledged that CBC Health Services will do its best to meet up with all of its obligations laid down in the partnership agreement. The event he added is very important because it stretches the work of the CBC Health Services out of the Northwest Region where the local councils are already working to take responsibility for the health of their people in inclusive activities in all spheres, most especially children. Children he reemphasized need to be involved in development plans and the social lives of their communities. It is hoped that the decentralized services in the country will include all children and the CBC Health Services is looking forward to work with all councils for this realization. He also used this event to extend his gratitude to all Partner Organizations of the EDID program and sincere thanks to the Liliane Foundation, the Strategic Partner that makes the work to improve the lives of PWDs in Cameroon to continue to improve. He called on all POs to be agents of education in their respective communities and make inclusion part of all their developmental activities.
Noteworthy is the fact that this partnership will result in greater service for Persons with Disabilities in the improvement of their lives. It will also contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Inclusive Development, a vision of the World, and Cameroon in particular.
