Etoug Egbe Baptist Hospital boosts NCD Care

Particpants determined to make the difference

Etoug-Ebé Baptist Hospital is poised to deliver even higher standards of care for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) following a specialized workshop held on June 27, 2025. This intensive training session saw NCD staff sharpen their skills in diabetes, hypertension, and obesity management, with about 800 diabetes and hypertension clients anticipated to benefit from the enhanced services.

The workshop, led by the astute NCD Prevention and Control Manager, Mr. Takwe Boniface, offered an in-depth review of non-communicable diseases. A particular focus was placed on obesity, covering its comprehensive classification, associated risks, and epidemiology, providing staff with critical insights into this widespread health challenge.

Adopting a truly holistic approach to patient care, the training also featured detailed sessions on nutrition counseling. The Program Officer, Nfor Shirley meticulously outlined various food classes, their sources, and their vital functions within the body, providing tailored dietary advice for patients managing diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Complementing this, the Sports Coordinator, Mr. Monju Elvis delivered valuable insights into suitable exercise routines for clients highlighting that the type of exercise should depend on what the clients enjoy doing and the duration should be in accordance to their physical state. He encouraged the staff to also dress in smart attires on clinic days as they encourage the clients to dress smart to make easy the sporting sessions.  On her part, the Communication Officer, Mrs. Gelam Freida focused on effective behavior change communication strategies, ensuring a well-rounded approach to patient support. Participants gained knowledge on the 7Cs of behaviour change communication, as well as the principles to ensure clients get a change in lifestyle for desired results to be attained.

This catch-up session was specifically organized for staff who had missed a previous training in Bamenda, ensuring that all frontline healthcare providers are equipped with the latest knowledge and best practices. Participants left the workshop feeling confident and exceptionally well-equipped, unanimously expressing that they had gained a wealth of knowledge that will significantly improve the quality of healthcare delivery and services offered to clients at Etoug-Ebé Baptist Hospital. This renewed expertise promises to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients, reinforcing Etoug-Ebé Baptist Hospital’s commitment to leading-edge NCD management.
