Prof. Tih Pius, Director of Health Services (DHS) has recognized some members of the Good Samaritan Blood Donor Association (GSBDA), based at Banso Baptist Hospital (BBH), for their lifesaving gift. Mr. Wirba Genesis, Eunice Leila, Tanni Faith, Abednego Tantoh and Marcel Langai were singled out for voluntary blood donation. They have donated blood voluntarily for 34, 26, 26, 24 and 23 times respectively.
Handing over certificates to the donors last January 23, 2020, Dr. Jam Divine, Associate Chief Medical Officer applauded the Heroes and Heroines for saving lives through voluntary blood donation. They were handed certificates of recognition and cash prices ranging from FCFA 68,000-46,000.
Earlier on, Dr. Julie Stone in a devotional culled from Hebrews 11:1-6, said that faith is a necessary ingredient in Christianity and that Christians should know that God uses everything for his purpose. She urged all to follow the example of great men of faith like Enock, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Abel amongst others.
BBH Senior Administrator, Pa Wirba Samuel thanked the donors for their donation. “I am full with amazement to learn that someone has donated blood voluntarily for 34 times,” he said. He applauded the members of the Association and promised his support to the growth and sustenance of the Association.
It is worthy of note that the GSBDA was recognized by the National Voluntary Blood Donor Organization (NVBDO) in 2010 and is bracing up to celebrate their 10th Anniversary come June 2020.
Mr. Wirba Genesis, President of GSBDA thanked the DHS for the recognition and promised to rally more members to donate blood more often to ensure that there is blood in the Blood Bank at BBH all the time. He called on people of goodwill to support the Association to meet set goals.
