Network Mobilization on Diabetes as CBC Health Facilities drive Major Awareness Campaigns across the Board

The Health Facilities of the CBC Health Services successfully orchestrated a massive, simultaneous campaign across multiple sites to commemorate World Diabetes Day during the year, delivering critical health services and education under the unique theme, “Diabetes and the Workplace.” The day, celebrated every November 14, was marked by activities that characterized a deep commitment to community outreach, preventive screening, and robust patient support.

The health teams mobilized heavily to intercept potential risks where communities gather. Ekoumdoum Baptist Hospital (EBH) spearheaded extensive school programs, deploying its teams for screening and sensitization at Baptist High School Awae, Pinnacle Secondary School, and Collège Paul Messi. This focus ensured that the message of prevention, specifically through health education, reached hundreds of students across Yaoundé.

The campaign’s reach extended to community hubs, with successful sensitization drives recorded at the Kumbo Central Mosque and the Salama group of Romajai Kikaikelaiki by the Banso Baptist Hospital team. At Nkwen Baptist Hospital, the administration took out time to celebrate with clients who shared testimonials resonating the successful intervention of the monthly clinic activities such as health talks touching on lifestyle modification as well as physical activities, leaving them with healthy numbers.

A key component of the network’s strategy was public and professional education. The theme, “Diabetes at the workplace,” was the subject of a vital presentation given at the Mbingo Baptist Hospital (MBH) chapel. This focus was reinforced by presentations given at BBH by the CMO, where experts gave elaborate talks on the necessity of early diagnosis and early management to prevent complications. Furthermore, the Internist from Ekoumdoum Baptist Hospital brought the message to a national platform, delivering a crucial health talk on World Diabetes Day over the national television, CRTV, in Yaoundé.

Beyond education, the facilities dedicated the day to celebrating and encouraging long-time clients. Patients attending the celebration in Bonaberi received a gesture of practical support, with each patient going home with a litre of groundnut oil from the administration. In Mutengene Baptist Hospital chapel, the clients received words of welcome and encouragement. Consistency in care was rewarded, as prizes were awarded to clients who have been regular since November last year, serving as an encouragement to others. The commitment to sustain effort was also announced, with MBH confirming further awareness creation and free screening scheduled for November 13 and 14, 2025, at Antusi CBC Church, Baingo.

Focusing specifically on the theme, a significant presentation on, “Diabetes and the Workplace” was delivered at the CBC HS Central Administration by the NCD Prevention and Control Manager, Mr. Takwe Boniface, emphasizing supportive professional environments. He highlighted the challenges people living with diabetes face at the workplace and ten ways through which employers can make life for persons living with Diabetes better at the workplace.

There was a series of radio sensitization by the NCD Central Team, meanwhile; the Program Manager also joined panelists from the Regional Delegation of Public Health and the Regional Hospital over CRTV Bamenda to educate the public on the dangers of Diabetes and preventive measures.

The widespread mobilization demonstrates that the CBC Health Facilities are indeed leaving no stone unturned, championing health and well-being through combined efforts of screening, education, and patient affirmation.
