PMEL Concept to Improve Quality of Service and Data Results in CBC Health Services
After the feedback from the pilot phase of the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMEL) system at Mboppi Baptist Hospital Douala (MBHD), the concept is anticipated to improve on the quality of service and data results in the CBC Health Services.
PMEL was conceived in April 2019 at the Director of Health Services (DHS) Office in Bamenda to improve on the quality of service delivery and data results collected within the different programs of the CBC Health Services and the organization at large.
Achataseh Godwill, PMEL Coordinator and cofounder says the goal of the PMEL system is to close the gaps within the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and other operational systems. “This is a product of two organizational assessments that were conducted on the CBC Health Services by its partners and a Ugandan M&E Consultant, Mr. Mujune Vincent. The assessment revealed that since the organization is large and made up of several different programs, data collected in the different programs and departments are not clearly harmonized to common results”, Achataseh explained.
The focus, the PMEL Coordinator went on, is to coordinate and consolidate all the departments and programs within the CBC Health Services at a central level, where all will work together as one to achieve a global objective. This will avoid duplication of data, managing time, resources and improve the quality of care offered to clients. “In this case, we can make use of one data clerk who will capture multiple data and distribute to the various structures, to avoid congestion and duplications,” he added.
From the pilot phase of evaluation conducted in December 2019 in Mboppi Baptist Hospital Douala (MBHD), Mr. Dauoda Nfor, MBHD Administrator said, there has been a great change and improvement in the quality of care in the hospital. “We have been able to know and make some adjustments on what clients want, from the clients’ feedback log responses. The PMEL system has helped us process data in a more organized way, the staff are more intentional and accountable more than what they used to be” he added.
The overall vision of PMEL, the founders say, is to develop strategic means of planning and doing things in the organization in a more accountable and convergent way to achieve common goals within the CBC Health Services.
