NBHC Acquires X-Ray Diagnostic Apparatus
Medical imaging has led to great improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of innumerable medical conditions thanks to the advancement in technology. Based on the advantage of imaging in standardized medical care, embracing this technology is no longer optional. Conscious of this, Nkwen Baptist Health Centre (NBHC) is leaving no stone unturned in that direction. Proof of this is the recent acquisition of a Multipurpose Diagnostic X-ray Machine.
Mr. Kanjo George Tata, Imaging\Ultrasound Technician says the new piece of equipment will facilitate the diagnosis of many cases through the use of X-rays. “Doctors do clinical examinations but cannot tell what is going on inside of the patient. But, thanks to the imaging techniques of x-rays from this machine we can see and detect what is in the inside,” supplemented Kanjo.
The new x-ray machine will enable care providers to have real-time images especially bonny structures for proper diagnoses and treatment.
The Diagnostic X-ray Machine was dedicated and put to use on October 13, 2020. In a brief dedication exercise, Rev. Mbuh Julius, Head Chaplain, and Chaplain Erica Wepngong prayed for the equipment, the staff who will work on it, and the patients who will utilize the equipment.
During the dedication in the presence of Mr. Kangong Joce, Administrator of Nkwen Baptist Health Centre and close aides, Mr. Kanjo George Tata who doubles as Supervisor of the Imaging Department at Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Health Services, made a laborious presentation of the equipment’s functions and accessories.
Quizzed on the general fear that people express being exposed to X-rays, Mr. Kanjo said all X-rays will be based on clinical justification made by the doctor. “Though X-rays have a potential risk when one is exposed to, we always weigh the risks against the benefits that it will have concerning the management of the patient’s condition,” Mr. Kanjo explained.
It should be highlighted that all has been put in place to limit radiation exposure. The walls and the floor of the X-ray room has been lined with lead. Lead is a great material that attenuates radiation due to its high density and atomic property.
