Overview

The Makenene Baptist Health Centre started under the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services on May 2, 2022. The Health Centre has been providing quality services to the Makenene neighbourhood and its population since then. The Health Centre treats malaria and gastroenteritis, which are common illnesses. The HC offers Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) services, which involve community work.  The HC provides both Inpatient and outpatient services to clients and sees an average of 900 patients per month as of March 2026.

Out-Patient Services
Emergency Room

The Emergency Department manages:

  • Accident and trauma cases
  • Hypertensive and diabetic crises
  • Respiratory distress and febrile conditions
  • General medical and minor surgical emergencies
  • Administration of injectable medications
Laboratory

The Laboratory runs 24/24 running diagnostic tests:

  • Parasitology: urine/stool analysis, occult blood, H-pylori, Malaria rapid/smears
  • Serology: Hepatitis B & C, HIV, syphilis, toxoplasma, typhoid, TORCH
  • Hematology: CBC, ESR, haemoglobin electrophoresis, direct and indirect coombs test
  • Bacteriology: sputum analysis, bodily fluid analysis (CSF, pleural, ascitic, synovial), semen analysis, ECS/VS/HVS, Gram staining
  • Biochemistry: Liver panel, kidney function test, basic and complete metabolic panels, blood sugar, electrolytes and lipid profile, HBA1C
  • Blood Donation Unit: donor screening, bleeding, and transfusion services
  • Antenatal clinic laboratory for pregnant women
  • Elisa: chlamydia serology, IgG/IgM
Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Department provides:

  • Dispensing of drugs to outpatients and inpatients
  • Compounding and pre-packaging of drugs
  • Counseling and clinical interventions
  • Drug supply to wards and other departments
  • Bill review, inventory control, and requisition
  • Continuous education of pharmacy staff
  • Updates to consultants on drug availability
  • Procurement and inventory control
  • Drug storage
Antenatal Clinic (ANC)

Services include:

  • Laboratory tests for pregnant women (CBC, HB, urinalysis, Hepatitis B, HIV, syphilis, malaria, and blood group)
  • Vital signs monitoring and blood pressure checks
  • Physical examination and counselling
  • Management of low and high-risk pregnancies
  • Health education, devotions, and nutrition talks
  • Postpartum consultation for mothers and babies
  • Vaccinations (BCG, Polio Zero at birth; PENTA, ROTA, and NEMO at 6 and 10 weeks)
Women’s Health Program

Services include:

  • Breast and cervical cancer screening
  • HPV testing
  • Family planning services
  • Infertility consultations
  • Doctor and Screener consultations and testing for STIs
  • Treatment of some sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as Gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma Genitalium and Trichomonas Vaginalis 
  • Health talks, sensitization campaigns, and community outreach
  • HPV Vaccination
  • Treatment of genital warts

  • Cervical punch biopsy
Nutrition Improvement Services

The nutrition improvement program (NIP) provides the following services: Dietary counselling on diabetics, hypertension, obesity, gastritis, adult malnutrition, and HIV and Aids. Health education, practical food demonstration, menu planning, formulation of nutritional feed and management of malnutrition, procession of Soypowder NIPSOYA. Accessing nutritional status of individuals and providing preventive measures to improve and promote healthier lives through nutrition. We also do outreach, and work closely pregnant and lactating mothers.

Eye Care Services

The Eye Department provides:

  • General consultations
  • Community eye screening during outreach
  • Refractions and visual field testing
  • Minor surgeries
  • Visits by ophthalmologists and low vision specialists
  • Prescription and fitting of lenses
  • Glaucoma screening and treatment

Auto refraction

Physiotherapy and Clubfoot Care Services

Services include:

  • Management of closed fractures and dislocations through casting and rehabilitation
  • Stroke rehabilitation and joint pain management
  • Clubfoot treatment and exercises
  • Rehabilitation and paediatric neurologic care
  • Muscle strengthening and cardio-respiratory therapy
  • Outreach programs, sports injury care, and trauma rehabilitation
  • Geriatric rehabilitation (Services for the elderly)
  • Service sensitisation and awareness at OPD and community
  • Work closely together with the wound care department
  • Patient consultation/assessment collaboratively with consultants
Social Services

The Social Services Department provides psychosocial and emotional support to patients and families. It handles:

  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases
  • Child abuse (physical, emotional, neglect)
  • Domestic violence and abandonment cases
  • Stress management, counseling for depression and anxiety
  • Psychosocial support for addiction cases (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.)
  • Bill follow-up and advocacy for financially challenged patients
  • Guidance counseling and mediation between patients and administration
  • Depression, epilepsy, anxiety, psychotic, and sleep disorders
  • Substance abuse, dementia, and developmental delays
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, and adolescent behavioral issues
  • Suicide risk, self-harm, somatic disorders
  • Psychotherapy, drug management, community sensitization, and outreach
  • Post test counselling for HIV
  • Adherence counselling for HIV positive cases
Wound Care Clinic and Treatment Room

The clinic provides:

  • Wound dressing and debridement
  • Suturing, incision and drainage
  • Nail surgery for ingrown nails
  • Foreign body removal
  • Angle brachial index (ABI) test
  • Monofilament test for diabetics
  • Blood sugar test
  • Cone excision
  • Ostomy care
  • Circumcision
  • Autoclaving machine where sterilisation are done
  • Performs minor surgeries 
Ultrasound / Imaging Unit

Services include:

  • Ultrasound: obstetric, abdominal, pelvic, ocular, thyroid, breast, and testicular.
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Program - Know Your Numbers (KYN)

The KYN program helps patients know their blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and waist circumference to assess risks of hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. Patients diagnosed are followed up through hypertensive and diabetes clinics visits, education sessions, and community sensitization campaigns.

Statistics Office and PMEL (Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning)

The unit manages:

  • Data collection and tallying
  • Compilation of statistics for both government and CBC Health Services
  • Analysis, reporting, and documentation
  • Distribution of ward forms and registers
  • Archiving of reports and records
Chaplaincy Services

The Chaplaincy Department supports the spiritual well-being of staff and patients. Activities include Bible studies, daily devotions at the health centre chapel, prayer sessions with staff, and bedside counselling and prayers for patients in the In-patient Department (IPD). We have devotions in the OPD, wards, and antenatal clinics (ANC), Enfant welfare and in all clinics of the hospital.

The chaplains provide counseling for patients with terminal illnesses, end-of-life care, premarital counselling, and marital counselling. They also work closely with doctors to support clients with chronic and terminal conditions. The department ensures that spiritual values are integrated into all hospital programs and activities. We also work carryout inquire classes to win more souls for Jesus through inquire classes. The staff are encouraging to contribute a freewill offering into the needy fund to meet the need of patients who are very needy.

The chaplaincy is open to the community as well as to staff as a referral and counter referrals.

Security Services

The Security Department operates 24/24 ensuring the safety of patients, staff, property, and information. Key roles include:

  • Monitoring access to hospital facilities
  • Escorting patients and visitors to the right services
  • Preventing theft and unauthorized removal of hospital property
  • Surveillance through cameras and real-time monitoring
  • Collaboration with public security in Makenene
  • Documentation of incoming parcels and dispatches
  • Monthly reporting to CBC Health Services Headquarters
Customer Care Service

Customer Care staff receive and direct patients to the appropriate services, provide information about departments, and document feedback. They also remind patients of appointments with specialists and follow up on service satisfaction.
