March 17th, 2026 marked the celebration of International Social Work Day, observed under the inspiring theme: “Building a Society of Hope and Harmony.” Across the CBCHS facilities, social workers organized meaningful activities to honor this day. Presentations and discussions highlighted not only the theme but also the vital role of social workers in hospital settings, reminding everyone of their indispensable contribution to holistic care.

Within CBCHS, social workers embody the mission of delivering quality care rooted in Christ’s compassion. Their work goes beyond medical treatment, addressing the social, emotional, and environmental challenges that patients and families face. By integrating advocacy, psychosocial support, crisis intervention, and empowerment of vulnerable groups, they ensure that healthcare remains humane, respectful, and inclusive. Every interaction demonstrates empathy, commitment, and hope in action.

In a letter to all institutions, the Director of Health Services, Mr. Ngum Samuel emphasized that social workers are vital members of the care team and play a crucial role in promoting health as a resource for everyday life. He reminded staff that health is not simply the absence of disease, but a state of physical, mental, and social wellbeing. His words carried deep appreciation for the dedication of social workers, acknowledging the challenging conditions they work in, including heavy workloads and limited resources. The DHS encouraged them to stay resilient and confident in their work, as well as continued collaboration and support with social workers to all staff, reinforcing teamwork as the foundation of quality care for all.

International Social Work Day is more than an annual event; it is a call to action. It reminds communities that hope and harmony are built through compassion, resilience, and unity. Social workers stand at the frontline of this mission ensuring quality healthcare to all in our society.
