CBCHS, MINEDUB Partner to promote Inclusive Education in Basic Education System
The CBC Health Services’ Services of Persons with Disabilities (SPD) and the Cameroon Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB) have signed a partnership to work together to promote the education of Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) in Basic Education system in Cameroon. The partnership was signed in Yaoundé on Thursday, January 13, 2022 between the Director of the CBC Health Services, Prof. Tih Pius Muffih and the Secretary General of MINEDUB, Daniel Adams Oyono.
The partnership signed for 10 years renewable, aims to strengthen the acceptability of education to primary school learners with disabilities by ensuring that the curriculum are inclusive and taking their needs into consideration.
In addition to this, the agreement seeks to ensure an accessible environment and laws that take the needs of learners with disability into consideration and ensure that the mainstream education system is adapted to the needs of learners with impairment.
In line with its strategic plans and legal framework, the CBC Health Services will commit to providing material support and follow-up individual learners with disabilities to ensure they don’t drop from school as a result of poverty or other factors as well as collaborate with Councils alongside MINEDUB to effectively reinforce Inclusive Education in Basic Schools.
According to the Administrator of the Etoug-ebe Baptist Hospital, Mr. Yongwa Zaccs, the partnership will improve the lives of Children Living with Disabilities. He constituted part of the CBCHS delegation to the signing ceremony. Mr. Yongwa emphasized that the CBC Health Services adopted Inclusive education in 2009 and currently has wealth of experience in inclusive education at the basic education level
On his part, the Secretary General of MINEDUB, Daniel Adams Oyono stated that the agreement will boost MINEDUB capacity to promote inclusive education for all in the domain of pedagogy.
It is worth noting that the CBC Health Services has successfully piloted inclusive education in 17 Primary Government Schools in the Northwest region and four faith-based schools in the West Region
