CBCHS-EDID Project Commemorates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The CBC Health Services – Empowerment and Disability Inclusive Development (EDID) Program joined the Ministry of Social Affairs (MINAS) and Disability Associations to celebrate the 30th edition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the esplanade of Hotel de Ville, Yaoundé.
The ceremony was commemorated under the patronage of the Minister of Social Affairs, Mme Pauline Irene Nguene, in the presence of the EDID project Manager, Mrs. Agho Glory, the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family, Mme Abena Ondoa, top Government Officials among others.
During the ceremony, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) presented gifts and equipment worth over 17.3 million FCFA to MINAS to aid associations of PWDs. Notwithstanding, the Minister of Social Affairs presented attestations to learners with disabilities for excellent academic performance. Also very intriguing was the performance of songs through demonstration by children with hearing impairment.
While speaking during the ceremony, the Minister of Social Affairs called on all actors to deploy efforts in eliminating all barriers to ensure that Persons with Disabilities contribute to nation-building.
According to the EDID Project Manager, Mrs. Agho Glory “the EDID Project takes appropriate measures to ensure that Persons With Disabilities are at the forefront in the fight against Covid-19 by taking their health intervention into their hands”.
She emphasized that “The EDID Program has empowered learners with impairment in 9 regions of Cameroon to enable them to acquire skills in ICT. The theme of this year’s celebration comes to motivate the EDID project to do more to ensure that the project is not working for Persons with disabilities (PWDs) but are working with PWDs by allowing them to take the leadership in the fight against Covid-19”.
This year’s edition is celebrated under the theme: Leadership and participation of Persons with Disabilities towards an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post Covid-19 world. This is a call for the national community to promote the full and equal participation of PWDs and to ensure the inclusion of PWDs in all aspects of Society and Development. It also comes to motivate the EDID project to work hand in hand with Persons with Disabilities to take leadership in the fight against COVID-19.
