CBCHS builds Capacities of PLAN International Field Staff on CBID
The staff members of Plan International Cameroon have been schooled on Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID), an aspect of less focused in the Organization over the years. The 3-day workshop organized by the Socio Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disability (SEEPD) Program in collaboration with PLAN International Cameroon held recently at Mondial Hotel Bamenda to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of staff on CBID interventions.
At the start of the workshop, the SEEPD Program Manager, Awa Jacques Chirac noted that CBID is a paradigm shift in every development work. Thus, as an organization offering humanitarian services, it was very vital for CBID to be mainstreamed in PLAN International Cameroon’s intervention so that no one is left out of their interventions.
Mr. Awa noted that partnering with development organizations to mainstream CBID in their work is a strategy to get more partners to understand and practice the concept given that it’s a new concept in development. He used the opportunity to applaud PLAN International Cameroon for fostering child protection in the country.
For 3 days, the 25 field staff acquired knowledge on disability concept, mainstreaming gender and child protection in development, and CBID amongst others. They had an opportunity to share their experiences on how they have been handling disability issues in their work over the years.
According to the PLAN Field Coordinator, Anjonga Emmanuel, the training will support staff in the field in a bid to close the gaps in service delivery when it comes to serving children with disabilities. He is hopeful that the partnership between CBC Health Services and PLAN International Cameroon will thus be enhanced to meet the needs of persons with disabilities in the Region.
Speaking at the close of the workshop, participants testified that the workshop has shaped their mentality on disability, thus giving them a new perspective to work. They mapped out an action plan which will help them mainstream CBID in their work at all levels.
Training of development stakeholders has been one of the focus of the SEEPD program in the present phase given that the priority for the phase is system strengthening. The CBID training which started in January this year has been going on successfully, thanks to funding from CBM AUSAID in collaboration with the CBC Health Services.
