Building Industry-Relevant Skills into Hotel Management Training in Cameroon
Hotel management is a fast-growing need in the hospitality industry and demands skilled individuals. Not only are they needed to deliver inclusive and holistic services, but it is also required that they relate with people in ways that foster wholeness and tranquility in the customers.
This is the focus of the CBC Health Services’ Vocational Training Center, which officially launched the commencement of the Hotel Management and Catering course for its 5th batch at the Nkwen Baptist Center in Bamenda on October 17, 2023. The 33 students to undergo the training in Bamenda, Cameroon hail from cities such as Banyo, Makenene, Yaounde, Dschang, Bafoussam, Mamfe, Bamenda, Banso, and Mbingo.
In his launching address to the participants, Mr. Warri Denis, Deputy Director of Administration and Finance (DDAF) of the CBC Health Services welcomed and congratulated them on scaling through the entrance examination. “The Baptist Vocational Training Center is known for its professionalism and boasts of a well-equipped team in theory and practical, and by the time of your graduation, you will be very sought after in the job market. The edge we have is that you will experience the love of Jesus Christ, which will build in you a Christian character,” he affirmed.
The DDAF proceeded to encourage the students to inculcate values needed to relate with people, shining a light so bright that the customers would feel special. “You must be honest, faithful, caring, and accountable” he added. He finally appreciated the school administration for their hard work and resilience in continuing to impact lives through training.
It should be noted that this training center responds to the need for highly skilled individuals to cater to the numerous canteens and guest houses of CBC Health Services. There is a direct relationship between the services offered to customers and their welfare, so there is a need to train more people skilled in the art of catering. After a year of theory, the students will be sent to different centers for their practical exercises.
