Nkoabang Baptist Health Centre is found in Nkoabang village, Nkolafamba Subdivision in Mefou and Afamba Division (Yaounde IV) of the Center Region of Cameroon. It is situated about 15km from the central town of Yaounde.

Overview
Nkoabang Baptist Health Center (NBHC) Yaounde was created on March 1, 2017. As at October 02, 2025, the health center has 77 staff, among who are three medical doctors and 5 Screeners. Â NBHC sees averagely 2550 clients in a month and has a bed capacity of about 25 distributed in 2 different wards. NBHC receives 75 percent of its clients from Nkoabang, and the other 25 percent from neighboring areas like Mimboman, Dixieme, Arette, Sur Mangier, Nkomo, and even Ekounou and Awae village. The Health Center treats diseases like malaria, intestinal parasites (Amaebiasis, diarrhea), gastritis, respiratory tract infections and hypertension, diabetes, meningitis, acute and chronic gastro enteritis, STIs, typhoid and several cases of blood transfusion, accidents, dog and snake bites. The Health Centre is opened 24/7.
Our Services
- Refractions, visual fields, cataract and glaucoma surgery, trauma repair, OCT, fundoscopy, and ocular procedures (On visitation).
This unit has an Internist who offers the following services in the hospital.
- Systemic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, stroke, rheumatoid/autoimmune diseases, CKD etc
- Infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS, TB and other tropical diseases etc
The Emergency Department manages:
- Accident (poisoning, etc) and trauma cases
- Hypertensive and diabetic crises
- Respiratory distress and febrile conditions
- General medical and minor surgical emergencies
- Administration of injectable medications
- Acute seizure disorders
- Hypotension cases.
The Laboratory runs 24/24 running diagnostic tests across 8 specialized units:
- Parasitology: Urine/stool analysis, occult blood, H-pylori antigen test. Skin and blood micro filaria tests
- Serology: Hepatitis B & C, HIV, syphilis, toxoplasma, typhoid, chlamydia and many others
- Hematology: CBC, ESR, malaria test, haemoglobin electrophoresis, coagulation tests (PT/INR, APTT) and more
- Bacteriology: Sputum analysis, body fluid analysis (CSF, pleural, ascitic, synovial), semen analysis, ECS/VS, cryptococcus antigen test and more
- Biochemistry: Liver function tests, kidney function tests, basic and complete metabolic panels, blood sugar, electrolytes and lipid profile and more
- Hormonal Testing: PSA, Thyroid function test, FSH, LH, prolactin, estrogen, testosterone, and others
- Blood Donation Unit: Donor screening, bleeding, and transfusion services and more
- Antenatal clinic laboratory for pregnant women and many others

The department offers the following Mental Health services:
- Mental health promotional activities including mental health talk, education and sensitization
- Prevention of mental health condition through activities including crisis intervention and grief counselling
- Mental health consultations
- Manage mental health conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, sleep disorders, Substance use problems (including alcohol and cigarette, addictions), dementia, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, as well as child and adolescent mental and behavioural issues like ADHD, ASD, Conduct disorders and epilepsy.

The Eye Department provides:
- General consultations
- Refractions
- Ophthalmologists (on visits)
- Prescription and provision of glasses according eye conditions
- Glaucoma screening and treatment
- Community eye screening during outreach
- Removal of eye worm.
Services include:
- Management of closed fractures and dislocations through casting and rehabilitation
- Stroke rehabilitation and joint pain management
- Exercises
- Muscle strengthening and cardio-respiratory therapy
- Sport injury care, and trauma rehabilitation
- Rehabilitation of Cerebral Palsy, developmental delay and down syndrome management
- Vascular issues are also being followed up
- Work in collaboration with Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR), Multiskilled Rehabilitation Technician (MRT) and Occupational Therapy (OT).

The Social Services Department provides psychosocial and emotional support to patients and families. It handles:
- Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases
- Child abuse (physical, emotional, neglect)
- Domestic violence and abandonment cases
- Stress management, counseling for depression and anxiety
- Psychosocial support for addiction cases (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.)
- Bill follow-up and advocacy for financially challenged patients
- Guidance counselling and psychoeducation
- Mediation between patients and administration
- Work with patients with terminal diseases (end of life sickness) and their families.
- Educate families on how to care for terminally ill patients
- Handle bereavement
- Handle conjugal or marital conflicts
- Work with people living with disabilities and refer some to the CBR for proper management
- Premarital assessments and counselling
- Pre operation and post operation counselling
- Pre and post test counseling for HIV, adherence counselling for persons diagnosed / living with HIV
- Work with age related issues by educating their caregivers on how to care for them
- Handle trauma cases in collaboration with the mental health department.

The Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) program helps patients know their blood pressure, blood sugar, BMI, and waist circumference to assess risks of hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. Patients diagnosed are followed up through hypertensive and diabetes clinic visits, education sessions, and community sensitization campaigns.

- With daily follow up in the unit from Monday to Saturday where one on one counselling is done

This program provides dietary counseling, health education, practical food demonstrations, menu planning, and nutrition feed formulation. It focuses on managing malnutrition and promoting healthy living. The department also processes soya powder (NIPSOYA), assesses nutritional status, and implements preventive strategies to improve community nutrition.
The Chaplaincy Department supports the spiritual well-being of staff and patients. Activities include Bible studies, daily devotions at the hospital chapel, prayer sessions with staff, and bedside devotions for patients in the Inpatient and Outpatient Department (OPD), wards, and antenatal clinics.
The chaplain provides counseling for patients with terminal illnesses, end-of-life care, premarital counselling, and marital counselling. The chaplain also works closely with doctors to support clients with chronic and terminal conditions. Choirs and gospel groups are often invited to minister in the wards and chapel. The department ensures that spiritual values are integrated into all health centre programs and activities. We further teach core values of the Healthservice through teachings. We carry out departmental retreats with planned days for each department of the HC. We also do easter presentations, and run spiritual life committee of the hospital. Close collaboration with Holistic Baptist Church Nkoabang. We also do counseling with new staff to know their spiritual stand, marital status, in order to help them better integrate into the system.

The Technical Services Department manages biomedical engineering, building, and construction needs.

Under construction and maintenance, the unit manages carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general repairs of hospital infrastructure.
