CBCHS Facilities Step Up Fight Against Malaria During International Malaria Day 2026

The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS), through its Malaria Control and Prevention Program (MCPP), joined the world to commemorate International Malaria Day 2026 under the theme, “Driven to End Malaria: Yes, We Can, Now We Must.” Activities were carried out across CBCHS hospitals, health centres, and special services, including the Health Services Complex, CIACP, and LAP, to strengthen malaria prevention and control in communities.

The activities, coordinated under the leadership of the MCPP Program Manager, Dr. Suh Nchang Abenwie, took place across seven regions with active participation from facility staff, focal points, administrators, patients, and surrounding communities. In the Centre Region, facilities such as Ekoundoum Baptist Hospital, Nkoabang Baptist Health Centre, Voundou Baptist Health Centre, and Etoug-Ebe Baptist Hospital organized health talks, service conferences, and community sensitization activities on malaria prevention, early diagnosis, and proper treatment. Sporting activities, including football, volleyball, and dance sports, were also organized to raise awareness and encourage community participation in the fight against malaria.

In the North West Region, facilities including Nkwen Baptist Hospital, Banso Baptist Hospital, Mbingo Baptist Hospital, and some Baptist Health Centers carried out health talks, drama presentations, debates, and awareness marches with placards carrying key malaria messages. These activities targeted patients, caregivers, churches, and members of the community.

In the South West Region, facilities intensified community outreach through free malaria screening, testing, treatment, and distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs). Radio sensitization programs and community health talks were equally used to reinforce key prevention messages.

Facilities in the West region such as Bafoussam Baptist Hospital, South, Littoral, and Adamawa Regions such as Tibati Baptist Health centre also organized health education sessions in clinics, churches, mosques, schools, and community gatherings. Drama presentations, recreational activities, and community mobilization exercises further helped to spread awareness on malaria prevention and the importance of seeking treatment early. Kouhouat Baptist Health Center in the West region spread awareness strategies, preventive measures and treatments for Malaria in respect to the 2026 theme.

As part of the celebration, the Director of CBCHS, Mr. Samuel Ngum issued a message encouraging all staff and communities to intensify the fight against malaria. In his speech, he expressed strong support for the 2026 theme and appreciated the efforts of the MCPP team, focal points, and facility leadership for their commitment towards reducing malaria prevalence within CBCHS communities. The Director encouraged all facilities to continue promoting preventive measures, early diagnosis, proper treatment, and community sensitization as part of the collective effort to eliminate malaria.

The 2026 International Malaria Day celebration within CBCHS facilities was marked by strong participation, teamwork, and community involvement, reflecting CBCHS’ continuous commitment to improving the health and well-being of the population it serves.
