Ultramodern Theatre for Ndu Baptist Hospital Dedicated
Saturday, June 24, 2023 turned a historic moment in Ndu Baptist Hospital (NBH) and the Wimbum community at home and in the diaspora following the dedication of the newly constructed theatre block of the hospital.
Rev. Dr. Nditemeh Charlemagne, CBC Executive President (EP) dedicated the structure and the entire hospital to God while the Divisional Officer (D.O) of Ndu Subdivision, Adamu Shuabo Ibrahim cut the ribbon to inaugurate the one-year old theater block. The EP and the D.O joined other speakers to salute the dynamism and forward-looking spirit of the leadership of the CBC Health Services and charged the people of Ndu to jealously guard the precious gift of the ultramodern theatre.
«This is your hospital, we can only support you to grow it, » the EP told the people of Ndu. The D.O applauded the CBC stance on Truth, Justice and Equity as propagated by the EP. According to the D.O, « these are ingredients for peace, which is driver for development such as the theatre we’re dedicating today ».
The representative of the Mayor of Ndu ably conveyed the joy of the population of Ndu as primary beneficiaries of CBC services beginning with schools like CBTS, JMBC and now a modern theatre, thus transforming the hitherto Ndu Integrated Health Center to a hospital status. In appreciation, the Ndu Council under Mayor Alhaji Abdou Kanfon Borno has tarred the street leading to the hospital to give it the cleanliness it deserves.
The same expression of joy came from Wimbum Cultural and Development Association (WICUDA) in the diaspora and at home. Speaking via live zoom during the dedication event, leaders of WICUDA USA namely : Drs. Elias and Odilia Bongmba and Fon Nganjo of Njirong heaped praises on the visionary leadership of the Director of Health Services (DHS) led by Prof. Tih Pius Muffih and supported by the EP, Rev. Dr. Nditemeh Charlemegne. The WICUDA leaders pledged to continue their support to the CBCHS’ move to expand the structures and services in Ndu Baptist Hospital. For the theatre project, WICUDA in the diaspora raised 55.971.000fcfa while WICUDA Cameroon raised 7.917.325fcfa. « Never have we been so united to raise such amounts of money into a single project in Wimbumland, » the WICUDA Cameroon representative confessed.
Prof. Tih, DHS commended all donors that responded to his appeal letter of July 29, 2020 to raise funds for the construction of a theatre in NBH. « The dream to build this surgical theatre arose from observed, as well as felt needs of the people of Ndu. In the early 2020s, we observed that the people of Ndu and the entire Donga Mantung Division were in dire need of basic life-saving surgical interventions. The absence of emergency theatre services were observed to pose life threats to pregnant women and to accident cases. The need was made more urgent because movement from Ndu to Banso Baptist Hospital has not only been long but impossible most of the time. Urgent action was thus very imperative, » the DHS narrated.
Having achieved the theatre, the DHS further challenged the people of Ndu and other stakeholders not to rest on the their laurels until the expansion of the hospital is complete. «The availability of the surgical interventions in Ndu Baptist Hospital has created awareness in the whole of Donga Mantung and beyond. We need to expand and improve the services in this hospital for this Division ».
In his welcome address, the Assistant Administrator of Ndu Baptist Hospital, Mr. Nfor Gamngong Emmanuel revealed that in just one year, the theatre has offered surgical interventions to 379 major and 500 minor cases and counting. He said the impact of the theatre is resounding. «We have received patients from all the Subdivisions of Donga Mantung, Bui, the West and Adamawa regions of Cameroon and others from Nigeria. Many people prefer to
leave Yaounde and Douala and come here for surgical intervention and others come because they have family around and they feel at home, » Mr. Nfor noted. Quality care to all as mission of the CBC Health Services is a pulling factor.
The new theatre block has the following features : anesthesia store, pre-operating assessment room, staff conference room, consumable store, sterile equipment store room, sluice room, two operating rooms, post anesthesia care unit, change room for females and males, 12-bed surgical ward, 3 private wards, toilets, kitchen and the Assistant Administrator’s office. The ultramodern theatre of NBH costs over 130 million fcfa, thanks to judicious spending.
