Baptist Training School for Health Personnel (BTSHP)


Overview
The Baptist Training School for Health Personnel (BTSHP) Banso, officially began as a Grade II Midwifery school in 1955. It is located in Banso, Kumbo Subdivision, North West Region, Republic of Cameroon, precisely in the premises of Banso Baptist Hospital (BBH). For over five decades, the BTSHP has been training health care workers who are providing leadership and health services throughout Cameroon. The school began training midwives in 1955 and nurses in 1963. From 1955, the name of the school has been modified many times. In December 2014, the name of the school was again modified to Baptist Training School for Health Personnel (BTSHP) to reflect the status of a Baptist school.
The training programs for physical therapy workers began in the 1970s. Other courses have been adding progressively till date. Biomedical Assistant training was introduced in October 2013. The Cameroon government accredited Pharmacy Auxiliary and Technician courses in 2021 and the State Registered Nursing in October, 2023. The BTSHP now has a total ten departments and over 31 programs. The programs are classified into long and short programs. Long programs last from a year and above while short programs are below one year. Beginning from October 2008, enrolment has steadily increased to about 200 candidates per year.

MAIN GOAL
The purpose of the school shall be to train qualified candidates for the government-recognized certificates as well as other in-service courses at varying levels in the different disciplines of the CBC Health Services.
ACTIVITIES
The purpose of the school shall be to train • Annually, we train in-service nursing staff for use by CBC Health Services • Annually, we train in-service obstetric nursing staff for use by CBC Health Services • The chaplaincy department organizes inquirer classes for the students who haven’t received Jesus Christ and those who succeed in the classes are finally baptized as Christians.
PROSPECTS / VISION
The BTHSP has the potential of becoming a full-fledged institution of higher learning in the days ahead. It is our earnest dream and expectation that the CBC authorities will consciously and intentionally pursue efforts for the creation of a Baptist University so that the BTSHP automatically becomes the faculty of health sciences.
The BTSHP has been growing steadily while still upholding to the quality of our training. We are and still remain a reputable training institution in Cameron. We are proud of what we have done and still continue to do for the population of our beloved country. We do more within the means available to ensure that the quality of our training is not compromised.
