The dream for the construction of a state-of-the-art the Children’s Hospital in Cameroon, which started three years ago, is well on course. The vision bearer, Dr. Dan Gwan-Nulla has assured that his passion to build the world class hospital in Mutengene, Cameroon, remains resolute. The Cameroonian born surgeon, resident in the United States, says his crusade to give Cameroonian children world class quality healthcare is unstoppable. According to him, Cameroon’s children, like children in other parts of the world, deserve the very best in healthcare. This tone of utmost optimism set the pace of the second enlarged meeting, but restricted to technical stakeholders whose contributions and ideas lend credence to the plan of Dr. Gwan Nulla and his wife to give back to his motherland.

The three-day meetings held in Mboppi Baptist Hospital Douala (MBHD) from September 24-26, 2025, brought together the entire Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) leadership led by the Executive President (EP), Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema; CBC President, Mr. Kongor John, Director of Health Services, Mr. Ngum Samuel and his two Board Chairs (Professors Judith Torimiro and Kimbi Helen), Director of Evangelism and Missions, Rev. Dr. Paul Mokake and the Director of Finance and Development, Mr. Ntam Ephraim among other leaders from the CBC Health Services related to the project.

In his opening and closing remarks, Prof. Tih Pius Muffih, chairman of the Steering Committee urged the meeting attendees to live up to expectation by scrutinizing with objectivity the presentations that would be pitched by the earmarked companies to bid for the contract in the various components of the project. Prof. Tih urged the prospective companies to see the Children’s Hospital as an opportunity for skills transfer, encouraging them to strictly follow the design presented by the donor and his design team.

CBC Executive President, Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema simply marvelled at the motivation of the donor and the enthusiasm of the companies and all the stakeholders in embracing the vision to construct a world class Children’s Hospital in Cameroon in partnership with the CBC. “This can be only be God that in a country with much insecurity at the moment, I am excited to see people still making their presentations and commitments with all enthusiasm,” the EP noted. He prayed for God’s intervention, guidance and protection all the way.

The design company from the USA, Build Health International (BHI), presented the detailed design of the world class Children’s Hospital followed by the designated Construction Company, Kendely, whose presentation featured the Site assessment, Drainage strategy, HVAC, Elevator and I.T pathways. Other presentations came from Gima-Bambot Healthcare for Medical Supplies, CBC Technical Services Department for Biodigester and I.T installation and Siemens by Dr. Nana Karoge among others. The meeting scrutinized each presentation and made inputs as necessary.

A major aspect of the Children’s Hospital project is the construction of a 700 kW hydroelectric power plant by JoTi construction (Cameroon) and Ossberger GmH (Germany) along the nearby Benyoh stream to supply constant uninterrupted electrical power to the hospital. The JoTi engineer, Dr. Tihngang, presented progress made so far, while the stakeholders provided him with additional ideas to accelerate his work especially in obtaining legal documents and clearance both at the local and national level.

The Groundbreaking Committee was put into motion to adequately prepare for a hitch-free launching of construction works to begin on the world class Children’s Hospital in Cameron on January 16, 2026 precisely at the Health Services Complex in Mutengene. The Memorandum of Understanding between the CBC and Dr. Dan Gwan-Nulla was also reviewed.

As Dr. Dan Gwan-Nulla and team returned to America on Saturday, September 27, it was clear that the dream and vision of a state-of-the-art Children’s Hospital in Cameroon has moved from the minds of Dr. Dan Gwan-Nulla and his wife to a shared vision bought by the CBC as stakeholder and subsequently, the vision is moving from paper to a grand groundbreaking event come January 2026.
