Building a World Class Children’s Hospital becoming a Reality in Cameroon

DHS, Mr. Ngum Samuel bringing a note of thanks

All things being equal, construction works will begin in November 2025 on the state-of-the-art children’s hospital, the first of its kind in Cameroon and Central Africa. Dr. Daniel Gwan-Nulla, U.S based Cameroonian and vision bearer of the project revealed that construction works on the world class children’s hospital, to be constructed at the CBC Health Services Complex in Mutengene, SW region, will last for three years.

An intensive working visit from March 16-21, 2025 enabled Dr. Gwan-Nulla and a team of three other experts in design and architecture to listen to five carefully selected local construction companies present their capabilities and know-how to construct such a world class hospital. “The best bidder would be chosen to construct the hospital exactly as that in Cote d’Ivoire or better than it, not less,” Dr. Gwan-Nulla stated emphatically.

The team also met with CBC leaders, CBC Health Services heads of department and doctors and the civil and municipal authorities of Tiko subdivision where the project is being hosted. While the heads of department gave inputs to improve on the layout of the different department units, the CBC leaders, civil and municipal authorities described the children’s hospital as a jewel that they cannot let go for whatever reason.

The Divisional Officer (D.O) of Tiko Subdivision, Voh Armstrong pledged his full support, noting that a project of such magnitude namely; the-state-of-the-art children’s hospital and a hydro power plant (dam) to be constructed side-by-side simultaneously are to be known right to the highest office of the land – the Presidency of the Republic. He promised Dr. Gwan-Nulla and his team to count on him to lead and introduce them to the SDO of Fako and the Governor of the SW region for courtesy. The D.O pleaded on the Tiko Council to be speedy and considerate in the issuance of the building permits for this project. The same appeal for consideration went to the land owners and farmers where the hydro plant will be constructed.

On his part, the First Deputy Mayor of Tiko Council who accompanied the D.O welcomed the team to his municipality with open hands. He confirmed that the Council was more than prepared to pave the road leading to the main entrance of the world class children’s hospital.

Building a world class hospital for children in a part of the world where there is none is what is driving Dr. Daniel Gwan-Nulla and his wife. Quizzed about his motivation, Dr. Gwan-Nulla passionately shared his experiences. “My motivation came from multiple examples of children who die during my work across Africa from lack of basic universal healthcare. This breaks my heart because these are God’s children who deserve the best quality treatment just as other children like them in America. We need to do more for our children…”

The presence throughout the week of the entire CBC leadership led by the CBC Executive President, Rev. Teke John Ekeme lends credence to the importance of this very important project to the CBC in particular and Cameroon in general. They followed through the presentations of the construction companies, went to the field to observe and demarcate the land for the construction of the children’s hospital and the hydro plant and met with the civil and municipal authorities.

Before the meetings rose, it was clearer in people’s minds that the-state-of-the-art world class children’s hospital to be built in CBC Health Services Complex in Mutengene is no longer an illusion but a reality to begin as soon as the paper works are completed.
