A Historic Milestone for Rehabilitation Sciences in Cameroon!

Stakeholders of UMa & CBC Health Services pose to celebrate MoU

CBCHS and University of Maroua Launch Road Map to Implement 2023 MOU on Training Rehabilitation Professionals
Yaoundé, Cameroon — CBCHS Resource Centre of Excellence, Mvan | September 2025

In a ceremony filled with hope and vision, the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Health Services and the University of Maroua (UMa) took another historic step forward by officially signing a Road Map to implement key provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concluded between the two institutions in 2023.

The 2023 MOU had outlined broad areas of collaboration between the CBC Health Services and UMa through the Socio-Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SEEPD) and Empowerment and Disability Inclusive Development (EDID) Programs. While the SEEPD Program has already been implementing certain provisions, this new Road Map focuses on operationalizing other critical aspects of the agreement—particularly the training, mentorship, and certification of Rehabilitation Professionals at the CBCHS Rehabilitation Training Centre of Excellence (RTCE), Baptist School of Public Health (BSPH).

Held at the CBC Health Services Resource Centre of Excellence in Mvan, Yaoundé, the event drew senior CBC Health Services leaders and University of Maroua officials in a spirit of unity and purpose. The program opened with prayer, followed by a welcome address from Mr. Ngum Samuel, Director of CBC Health Services who emphasized the historic significance of moving from agreement to action.

Presenting the “Reasons for the Partnership and the Specific Road Map,” Mrs. Agho Glory, EDID Program Manager underscored the urgent need for UMa to mentor and certify graduates of the Baptist School of Public Health (BSPH)’s Rehabilitation Training Centre of Excellence. “This Road Map represents our joint commitment to ensuring that training in Occupational Therapy and other rehabilitation fields in Cameroon meets both national and international standards,” she explained.

Dr. Foyeth Eugene recalled the MOU signed in 2023, noting that it had provided the framework for collaboration. He described the newly signed Road Map as a concrete tool for implementation, giving life to the MOU’s vision—especially regarding the development of rehabilitation training programs.

The signing, done by Professor Idrissou Alioum, Rector of the University of Maroua, and Mr. Ngum Samuel, Director of CBC Health Services, was met with applause. The Road Map cements cooperation around the Bachelor and Master programs in Occupational Therapy at BSPH, which will now benefit from UMa’s mentorship, accreditation, and certification support.

The ceremony concluded with both institutions renewing their commitment to timely and effective implementation. As highlighted by speakers, this Road Map is not merely an administrative step, but it is also a movement bridging academia and healthcare, empowering rehabilitation professionals, and transforming the lives of persons with disabilities in Cameroon.

Congratulations to CBCHS and the University of Maroua!
The future of rehabilitation in Cameroon is here—and it is unfolding with purpose.
