Government Hospital takes Interest in CBC Health Services’ Screeners Training Course

Ten nurses have completed and graduated from the Screener’s Course, a flagship program of the CBC Health Services. Three out of the ten newly trained screeners came from Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex and seven from the CBC Health Services. The three male and seven female graduands went through the rigorous training for six months running from June to December with an expected pass mark of at least 70 percent before graduation. Meeting this requirement with class average pass of 80+ percent, the screeners graduated on December 5, 2025 at the chapel of Nkwen Baptist Hospital in Bamenda where the training took place.

Speaking on behalf of the Director of Health Services, his Deputy for Administration and Finance (DDAF), Mr. Warri Denis applauded the Screener’s Course of the CBC Health Services, which impact in sustaining our quality healthcare services, attracted a major government hospital for the first time to apply to train her own screeners as well. The training of screeners, according to the DDAF, reflects the commitment of the CBC Health Services in contributing to the provision of high quality health care to the population of Cameroon.

To cope with the constantly evolving clinical practice, Mr. Warri charged the newly trained screeners to intentionally embrace patient-centred care, evidenced-based screener care, inter-professional collaboration and continuous quality improvement.

Dr. Akwa Divine Bong, Medical Adviser of Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex narrated why the Director of the Hospital, whom he represented, chose to send three nurses to be trained by the CBC Health Services. The Medical Adviser revealed that his director witnessed and admired how screeners in the CBC Health Services hospitals consulted patients including some of his relatives with dexterity and accuracy. It is hoped that the three newly trained screeners will go to improve on the provision of quality health care in Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex by assisting the doctors not only in nursing care but also in basic consultation and diagnosis.

The course coordinator, Mr. Yosimbi Promise who doubles as the General Supervisor of Nursing Services in the CBC Health Services and the lead trainer in the course, Mr. Takwe Boniface joined other speakers to congratulate the screeners for successfully going through the training mill. The course coordinator revealed that the training began with 13 students but three withdrew along the way because they could not meet up with the 70 percent pass mark. “We cannot lower the standard for whatever reason,” Mr. Yosimbi remarked. He charged the graduating screeners to uphold the core values of the CBCHS namely: Integrity, Honesty, Accountability, Love, Respect, Patient-centered care, and Christ-like service. “Guard the ethical principles that guide our profession: Autonomy, Beneficence, Non-maleficence, Justice, Confidentiality, Veracity, and Fidelity,” he reiterated.

Responding to all that were said and done, two representatives of the graduating class, one from the CBC Health Services and the other from Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex pledged to be good ambassadors of the screener’s course. They thanked all the stakeholders that contributed to their success, Nkwen Baptist Hospital for conducive work environment, the lecturers for mentorship and guidance and their families for support. The class representative from Nkambe Regional Hospital Annex requested that the partnership should continue so that many more nurses from the government hospital can come in to be trained as screeners.
