Overview
The Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Central Pharmacy (CP) was created in 1989 to centralize the procurement, storage of medicines, and to ensure equitable distribution of medicines to all CBC health institutions. The CP was authorized by Cameroon’s Ministry of Public Health on March 2, 2017. Since its creation, the frequent shortage of some essential items in the CBC health institutions and over-stocking of these same items in others has been resolved considerably. The Central Pharmacy Drug Supply Services is the second drug supply management system in Cameroon after CENAME in terms of centralized procurement, distribution and capacity. CP has well trained scientists who specialize in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Analysis, Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology and Laboratory Technology. There is also a host of support staff.
The Central Pharmacy has six departments that offer quality services. These departments are: Administration, Distribution, Production and Quality Assurance
Distribution Department
This Department performs the following functions and services:
- It stocks drugs, medical supplies and equipment and ensures appropriate distribution practices.
- Generates sufficient funds that sustain supply of medicines.
- Ensures appropriate warehousing facilities
- Supplies products in the shortest time possible to all the CBC health institutions.
- Manages donations from partners like White Cross and CBM.
Production Department
The department has many units:
- Sterile Production Unit
- Non-Sterile Production or Compounding Unit
- Chemical Production Unit and
- HESCO (Health Services Complex) Water Production Unit
Quality Assurance
This department controls the quality of what is produced at CP and what is bought for distribution
